What are Healthy Boundaries?

Personal boundaries are the rules and expectations you set in your relationships.

Boundaries are how you know to act differently with a teacher or a boss than you would with your best friend. They let you know when to act formally versus casually, open versus closed, or when to say “no” instead of “yes.”

When someone has healthy boundaries they are able to form open and healthy relationships, but they also have the ability to say “no” and set limits when the situation calls for it.

In the What are Healthy Boundaries? video, Woody Schuldt, LMHC, teaches the basics about boundaries. Topics covered in the video include:

  • differences between healthy, porous, and rigid boundaries
  • how each person learns to set their own boundaries
  • tips for improving boundaries

Boundaries are an essential part of forming healthy relationships, establishing work-life balance, and balancing the needs of yourself and others. This video offers a simple introduction to those who are learning about boundaries for the first time, and can inspire conversation among those working to improve their boundaries.
