Yukon Blonde’s Fire//Water September 04, 2011

Nomenclature is the manner in which names are assigned. We collect names and titles and then we reveal the story behind that name.

When talking about the FIRE//WATER EP, we need to talk about the songs “Fire” and “Water.” We had many discussions on which tracks would make our upcoming album before the concept of an EP came forward. It was a hard choice, because both songs are in the tune of G, follow a similar structure and are about simple, yet opposing ideas. It almost seemed like a joke that we managed to separately write two songs that were nearly the same – so the trouble with the decision was that we really liked both of the songs so equally that we almost opted to have neither released.

As the songs for our sophomore album began to take shape and a theme started to present itself, it became blatantly obvious that four of the tracks didn’t fit with the others – “Fire” and “Water” being two of those four. We started joking around about the idea of an EP that would include both of the songs that we so desperately wanted to separate not only on it, but equally featured on opposing sides – just like fire and water. I don’t know the exact moment it became one of the most serious ideas we ever had, but soon enough our silly concept EP had taken on its own form; each track sitting out from the rest like sore thumbs. We went ahead with it, went to California to do the art with our friend Nicole (Stishenko), and haven’t looked back since!
