A song is a key for locked memory boxes. A song can transport you back through time, giving you a chance to relive moments and ideas that occurred back when you first heard that song. A song is not just a song; it is also a story.
Animal Collective – “Banshee Beat”
I used to get a huge rush from listening to music when I was younger. I felt extremely happy and a little bit melancholic at the same time, just like how it feels when you’re in love with someone. But as I got older I didn’t feel that as much anymore, especially not after meeting my boyfriend. Guess music was sort of a substitute for real love somehow. I missed my old passionate relationship with songs though but didn’t think it would ever happen again. But then I discovered “Banshee Beat” by Animal Collective.
Everyone around me loved Animal Collective but I didn’t care much about it. Brushed it off as one of those hipster hypes. It took me about a year and a half to fall for them too. My boyfriend had “Banshee Beat” on his playlist and every time I heard it I stopped and asked, “Who is this?” It eventually stuck in my head and I started to feel a need to listen to it every day. Other music suddenly seemed very boring and uninteresting. Nothing could compete with “Banshee Beat”. I slowly felt the old obsession with music coming back to me. I think Animal Collective will be one of those bands that I will always return to and especially the song “Banshee Beat”. It’s the soundtrack of my early thirties.
