A song is a key for locked memory boxes. A song can transport you back through time, giving you a chance to relive moments and ideas that occurred back when you first heard that song. A song is not just a song; it is also a story.
Colin McPhee – “Balinese Ceremonial Music for Two Pianos”
A song that’s important to me is Colin McPhee‘s “Balinese Ceremonial Music for Two Pianos”. In March 2010, I went to a show at The Kitchen and saw Nico Muhly and Thomas Bartlett perform some arrangements of Colin McPhee’s gamelan transcriptions and was transfixed.
I came home and looked up as much as I could on Colin McPhee. I love the “Music for Two Pianos” – I never get tired of listening to it. It sounds to me somewhere between water and thought.
